Who Is The Best Player Without A Cup Victory?

It is that time of year again! You can feel the electricity in the air. Yes sir, it is Reunion Cup time again. It seems like just yesterday that Drew DeHaven ran away from the field at the Hermitage Golf Course in Nashville, TN for yet another title. This year the top ranked players in the nation will converge on Amelia Island's Long Point Golf Course to grind it out for the 2010 Reunion Cup.

With the field now set, we here at Scotty Illustrated ponder the question: Who Is the Best Player Without a Reunion Cup Victory? Nick Primm and Drew Dehaven have monopolized the wins since the inception of this major, leaving Scott Davis and Jason Luna winless. Nick is on a zen-golf path this year in search of another major, while Drew is currently suffering from an awful case of the hooks. Does this leave the door open for one of the two winless players?

Let's take a closer look at the two non-champs to see who really is more likely to grasp his first major. First, Mr. Jason Luna. Jason has the size, strenght and power, but does he have the mental game? In previous Cups, Jason has had a huge advantage of working at a golf course with unlimited access to practice and play. In his first year on tour, Jason even hosted the Cup at his home course where he knew every bend, break and brook! However, even with such a huge edge on the field, he failed to capture a win. With all things equal, Jason simply does not have the mental game to win a Cup. EVER. Is epic mental lapses are well documented. During the 2007 Cup hosted by Scott at Durham Lakes GC Jason put tee ball after tee ball into the lake as the players watched in pain. He should still be on the tee box at SugarLoaf CC firing balls left into the woods! And 2009! He stood on the 17th tee box with a 1 shot lead over Scott, only to dribble his 3 wood tee shot into the pond roughly 10 yards in front of him! How much more proof do we need that Jason is a mental midget?

As for Scott Davis, well...He certainly looks the part of a Reunion Cup champ! He has top sponsorship from Titleist year after year. His work ethic is second to none. He has matured as a player over the last several years, and yet he still zero titles. His mental game is as solid as an oak. He has improved his driving accuracy year after year. In the past he did tend to use an odd wedge nicknamed the "Polish Wedge", however that club is no longer in his bag. During an interview with Nick, Mr. Primm was quoted as saying, "I have played with Scott for years now, and I am amazed that he has yet to win a Cup! He has all of the tools needed to win a major. I believe when he wins his first Cup, the sky is the limit. As for Jason, he does that weird thing at the top of his swing and he crumbles under ANY pressure. He also is reportedly using a queer long putter".

So there you have it! Scott is the Best Player Without A Cup Victory! Only time will tell, but could this be Scott's year? Odd say no. However, we here at Scotty Illustrated believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that Scott will win 10 Cups before Jason wins 1!

Lack of experience playing with Scott, Luna

Have 50-50 shot/hate to nut lick. Metaphysical path lead unknown swing.
